Indeed, they can write a Letter of Invitation where they will attest to the fact that you will be staying with them during your stay in Canada.
Keep in mind that having a Letter of Invitation does not necessarily mean your application will automatically be approved.

The Letter of Invitation, in some instances, has to be notarized in Canada by the person inviting you. However, you cannot know in advance if it has to be notarized. The Visa Office in charge of your region will notify you if they need it to be notarized.
To notarize your Letter of Invitation in Canada, you will need a Commissioner for Oaths or a Notary Public to sign your letter (or a certificate which would be attached to the letter).
The Letter of Invitation needs to be added to your list of supporting documents that are part of your application package. If you apply online, you will need to scan the letter and upload it.
